📖 Quick Glossary
Ionosphere — A region of Earth’s upper atmosphere containing ionized particles that strongly affects radio propagation and GPS signals. Space weather — Conditions in the Sun-Earth system driven by solar activity that can affect satellites, communications, navigation, and power systems. Solar wind — A stream of charged particles flowing outward from the Sun that interacts with Earth’s magnetic environment. CME — Coronal mass ejection; a large eruption of solar plasma and magnetic field that can trigger geomagnetic storms. Geomagnetic storm — A disturbance in Earth’s magnetosphere caused by solar wind enhancements or interplanetary magnetic fields. TEC — Total electron content; a measure of ionospheric electron density along a signal path, important for GNSS performance. HF propagation — Long-distance radio-wave propagation in the high-frequency band, which depends strongly on ionospheric conditions. Scintillation — Rapid fluctuations in signal phase or amplitude caused by small-scale ionospheric irregularities.
