📖 Quick Glossary
Ionosphere — A region of Earth’s upper atmosphere containing ionized particles that affects radio propagation and satellite signals. Total Electron Content (TEC) — The integrated number of free electrons along a signal path, commonly used to quantify ionospheric impact on GNSS and radio systems. Geomagnetic storm — A temporary disturbance of Earth’s magnetosphere caused by solar wind structures such as CMEs or high-speed streams. Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) — A large eruption of plasma and magnetic field from the Sun that can drive space-weather disturbances at Earth. Solar Flux (F10.7) — A standard measurement of solar radio emission at 10.7 cm used as a proxy for solar activity and ionospheric conditions. Kp index — A planetary geomagnetic activity index derived from midlatitude magnetometer data, commonly used in space-weather forecasts. HF propagation — High-frequency radio-wave transmission that depends strongly on ionospheric conditions and can degrade during storms.
